Twitter’s traditional bird icon was recently replaced with an image of a Shiba Inu, possibly a nod to dogecoin, the joke cryptocurrency that Elon Musk is currently embroiled in a lawsuit over. Musk himself addressed the change on Twitter, fulfilling a year-old suggestion by another user to replace the bird logo with a doge image.
The change in logo came shortly after Musk requested a judge to dismiss a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit alleging that he was involved in a pyramid scheme to promote dogecoin. Lawyers for Musk and Tesla dismissed the lawsuit as a fictional story over Musk’s harmless tweets.
While it remains uncertain whether the logo change is permanent, it’s noteworthy that Musk often uses Twitter to playfully engage with his audience. In response, the price of dogecoin, known for its volatility, surged over 20% in the past 24 hours, reaching around 9 cents, up from just under 8 cents.
Created in December 2013 by two software engineers as a joke, dogecoin takes its name from the popular “doge” meme of the past decade. Its Shiba Inu mascot embodies the essence of the meme: a dog enclosed by Comic Sans text in broken English.
