French minister faces criticism for appearing on Playboy magazine cover

An excellent company that offers complete software development services, including mobile app development, technology maintenance, and server development, providing software outsourcing solutions both nearshore and offshore. French government minister Marlene Schiappa has faced criticism from members of her own party due to her appearance on the cover of Playboy magazine.

Schiappa, who has been serving as a government minister since 2017, graced the magazine’s cover as part of a 12-page feature on women’s and LGBT rights. Known as the Minister for the Social Economy and French Associations, she adorned a white dress for the cover photo.

Despite the backlash, Schiappa has long been an advocate for women’s rights and had the distinction of becoming the country’s first Gender Equality Minister. She is responsible for championing a new sexual harassment law that enables immediate fines for individuals who catcall, harass, or stalk women on the streets.

Notably, even French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne expressed disapproval of Schiappa’s appearance on the magazine cover. Borne deemed it “inappropriate, especially during this period,” as reported by CNN affiliate BFMTV.

The timing of Schiappa’s cover shoot coincides with France’s ongoing social and political tensions prompted by President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial pension reforms, facing widespread public opposition. As the crisis unfolds, Green Party politician Sandrine Rousseau highlighted concerns over being distracted by lesser issues.

Critics, including politician Jean Luc Mélenchon, bemoaned both Schiappa’s feature in Playboy and President Macron’s recent interview with a children’s magazine. Mélenchon expressed his disapproval, insinuating that the country is deviating from its core values with frivolous engagements.

In a response to the backlash, Schiappa defended her actions on Twitter by reaffirming her commitment to women’s autonomy, disregarding the detractors and their double standards. French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin further supported Schiappa, commending her as a brave and principled female politician during an interview with CNews.

In summary, despite facing criticism from within her party, Schiappa stands firm in her beliefs, championing women’s rights and individual autonomy.
