Elon Musk’s Swap of Twitter Bird for Shiba Inu Sends Dogecoin Soaring

Twitter recently made a surprising change by replacing its traditional bird icon with an image of a Shiba Inu dog. This change is seen as a nod to dogecoin, the popular joke cryptocurrency that has been making headlines due to a lawsuit involving CEO Elon Musk. Musk addressed this change by tweeting, “as promised,” along with an image of a conversation from a year ago where a user suggested changing Twitter’s logo to a doge, referencing dogecoin.

This logo swap occurred shortly after Musk filed a motion to dismiss a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing him of promoting dogecoin as part of a pyramid scheme. Musk’s legal team dismissed the allegations as baseless, referring to them as a “fanciful work of fiction” provoked by Musk’s humoristic tweets.

The decision to switch to a doge logo on Twitter is causing speculation about whether this change is permanent, especially considering Musk’s history of using social media to provoke reactions from his followers and critics. Meanwhile, the price of dogecoin experienced a significant increase of more than 20% in the last 24 hours, reaching about 9 cents, after trading just under 8 cents on Monday morning.

Dogecoin, created in 2013 by two software engineers as a light-hearted joke, has grown in popularity over the years. Its name is derived from the “doge” meme that gained traction a decade ago. The coin’s Shiba Inu mascot pays homage to this meme and is accompanied by text in broken English resembling Comic Sans font.
