The Chinese surveillance balloon program operated from Hainan has conducted numerous missions worldwide, including roughly half a dozen within US airspace. Despite China’s claims that the balloon was a weather balloon off course, the US suspects it was maneuvered deliberately, considering its movements over sensitive areas.
