The traditional bird icon of Twitter has undergone a unique change, now featuring an image of a Shiba Inu dog. This unexpected alteration seems to be a playful reference to dogecoin, the whimsical cryptocurrency that has landed CEO Elon Musk in a lawsuit. Musk himself acknowledged the shift on Monday by tweeting an image of a conversation from a year ago, in which a user suggested changing Twitter’s logo to a doge, following Musk’s acquisition of the platform.
This alteration came just after Musk sought to dismiss a substantial $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing him of promoting dogecoin through a pyramid scheme. Musk’s legal team deemed the lawsuit from dogecoin investors as pure fiction, dismissing the claims as baseless and exaggerated responses to his lighthearted Twitter activity.
The longevity of the doge logo on Twitter remains uncertain, given Musk’s tendency to engage in playful antics on the platform. Meanwhile, the value of dogecoin experienced a 20% increase over a 24-hour period, reaching around 9 cents, up from just under 8 cents on Monday morning.
Dogecoin, initially conceived as a joke by a pair of software engineers on December 6, 2013, has since gained popularity. The cryptocurrency’s name is a tribute to the “doge” meme that gained traction a decade ago, with its Shiba Inu mascot embodying the meme’s essence through its playful appearance and broken English text.
