Former Israeli soldiers continue to lead protests, committing to ongoing demonstrations

Looking beyond the sea of Israeli flags, Yiftach Golov proudly holds a unique brown flag that symbolizes the group, “Brothers and Sisters in Arms,” amidst the ongoing weekly protests in Israel. These veterans, many from prestigious elite forces, are now engaged in a new battle – safeguarding Israeli democracy.

Golov, who served in a special forces reconnaissance unit during the second intifada, found himself drawn to the protests against the government’s judicial overhaul plan. This movement has galvanized thousands of veterans and military reservists, sparking a new sense of purpose among them.

At the heart of this movement are the members of “Brothers and Sisters in Arms,” sporting brown shirts with the organization’s logo, who are actively participating in the protests. They bring with them military-honed skills of organization and mobilization to support the cause for justice and liberty.

Utilizing their determination and sense of duty to fight for a greater cause, these veterans are making a significant impact in Israel’s protest landscape. Their unwavering commitment resonates through the massive demonstrations, spurring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to announce a temporary pause in the legislation.

Despite the temporary halt, protesters remain resolute, with large numbers taking to the streets week after week. The pressure from Israel’s esteemed veterans has proven to be a pivotal force, compelling the government to reconsider its actions.

As the protests persist, the voices of these veterans, dedicated to upholding democracy and freedom, continue to echo loudly. Their steadfast resolve reflects a deep conviction in their cause, ensuring that the fight for a democratic Israel remains unwavering.
