The quartet of astronauts will commence training for the historic Artemis II lunar flyby, scheduled for a launch in November 2024.
The four astronauts revealed for the mission are NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.
Reid Wiseman, a 47-year-old, decorated naval aviator and test pilot, has been with NASA since 2009. His prior spaceflight experience includes a 165-day expedition to the International Space Station in 2014. Wiseman, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, will lead the Artemis II mission as its commander.
Jeremy Hansen, also 47, is a fighter pilot from London, Ontario, who joined the Canadian Space Agency in 2009. He is in line to be the first Canadian to journey to deep space.
Victor Glover, aged 46, is a naval aviator who piloted the second crewed flight of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft. He has logged many hours in various aircraft and is now poised to participate in the Artemis II mission. Born in Pomona, California, Glover embodies a key role in the team’s diverse skill set.
Christina Koch, a 44-year-old veteran astronaut with expertise in spacewalks, is an electrical engineer with a remarkable career. Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Koch’s tenure at the South Pole and lengthy spaceflight make her a valuable addition to the team.
The Artemis II mission, following the successful Artemis I uncrewed test mission, is set to launch in November 2024. The mission aims to journey beyond the moon, pushing the boundaries of human space travel, possibly farther than any previous mission.
