The astronauts slated to lead the first crewed moon mission in fifty years have been announced. NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency are the chosen quartet. These astronauts will pioneer the historic Artemis II lunar flyby, scheduled for lift-off in November 2024.

Reid Wiseman, a decorated naval aviator and test pilot, will command the Artemis II mission. Victor Glover is a naval aviator with SpaceX experience, Christina Koch is known for multiple spacewalks, and Jeremy Hansen will be the first Canadian in deep space. These highly qualified astronauts are set to make history.

The Artemis II mission will follow the success of Artemis I, gearing up for a mission depth beyond the moon itself. The crew members will launch aboard the Orion spacecraft in November 2024 and orbit the moon before returning to Earth for a Pacific Ocean splashdown.

The Artemis program aims to establish a permanent human presence on the moon, as a stepping stone to reaching Mars. NASA is targeting 2025 for Artemis III, with the hope of returning humans to the lunar surface. The mission will require cutting-edge technology, including spacesuits and lunar landers, all under development.
